Frequently Asked Questions
WHEN CAN I START EXERCISING AGAIN AFTER HAVING A BABY?
The guidelines are:
6 weeks after a vaginal birth
10 weeks after a c-section
If you are unsure whether you are ready please check with your GP.
DO I NEED A SPECIAL PRAM?
No. Your usual pram will be just fine. As long as it is well padded and comfortable for baby and the handles are the right height for you it will be fine.
If baby cannot hold his/ her head stable I advise that you use a head guard like the ones you get in car seats.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR POWERPRAMMING?
A sports bra, trainers and comfortable clothes.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO POWERPRAMMING?
Please bring and mat and some water.
IS POWERPRAMMING TAUGHT BY A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR?
Of course!
All Powerpramming instructors are trained with in Ante and Postnatal Exercise. We are also trained in First Aid at Work and are insured.
If you breastfeed you may also be interested to know that I am a trained Breastfeeding Peer Support Mother. So I can also help you if you have breastfeeding problems/ questions.
WHAT DO WE DO IN POWERPRAMMING?
We start with a warm up and then progress onto the main workout which is a mixture of fast walking or jogging for those that have been coming to the classes for a while.
If you don't feel fit enough for a jog don't worry as you can Power Walk.
We then park up the prams and do a workout infront of the babies that will tone you up and work your heart and lungs.
We work the legs, bum, tummy, shoulders and arms.
When we have finished we have a cool down and stretch.
Lots of the class then head off to the cafe.
WHAT DO THE BABIES DO WHILE WE EXERCISE?
The older babies seem to find Powerpramming fascinating and hilarious watching carefully as Mum works out.
The younger ones tend to find the movement makes them sleepy and they often stay in the pram throughout the workout.
The older babies often get out of their prams when we are stationary and have a kick about on a blanket or a crawl or toddle around.
WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES DURING POWERPRAMMING?
Don't worry, all babies cry and we are all in the same boat!
When we park up for the main workout you can get baby out of the pram for a cuddle or a feed if you feel that is what is needed.
I advise that you feed baby before the class if you think he/ she may get hungry.
If baby is a little older and on solids bring a little snack for them.
HOW LONG DOES A POWERPRAMMING CLASS LAST?
1 hour
IS POWERPRAMMING CANCELLED IF IT RAINS?
No. We find as much shelter as possible and still have a great workout.
IS POWERPRAMMING CANCELLED IF IT IS VERY HOT?
No. We go to shady spots in the park and work out there.
