FEATURED EXERCISE
BACK EXTENSIONS

This exercise will help to strengthen your lower back.

The effects of pregnancy and looking after a baby can cause alot of damage to the lower back so it is important to spend some time on strengthening it.

If you are breastfeeding you may prefer to do this exercise after a feed as you have to lie on your front.

Lie face down on the floor with your legs straight.

Keep your head looking down to the floor as this helps to maintain good spinal alignment. Your nose is more or less on the floor/ mat.

Place the hands beneath the chin.

Under control raise the chest off the floor so the back is extended to about 30-40 degrees.

Do not extend the neck as the back is raised as this can lead to strain of the neck muscles and make breathing difficult.

Keep your feet still.

Lower the back under control to the start position.
